Creating your first drawing

This walkthrough creates a drawing from an open model. Make sure ADC is installed and your license (or trial) is active.

  1. Open the part or assembly you want to draw in Inventor.
  2. On the ribbon, click ADC.
  3. Assemblies only — choose the BOM scope. Default is recommended; you can also pick Structured, Structured All Levels, or Parts Only. Purchased, Phantom, and Reference components are skipped.
  4. In the View & Scale selector, set the front-view orientation and the scale — or let ADC fit the scale to the sheet automatically. Use Check Drawing to confirm the layout fits the sheet.
  5. Run it. A progress bar appears (you can hide or stop it) while ADC places the views, fills the title block and border, adds dimensions, and — for assemblies — adds the parts list and balloons.

Saving

How drawings are saved depends on the Drawing Document settings: ADC can save each drawing next to its model (recommended), save to a folder you choose, or leave the drawings open and unsaved. Leaving many documents open and unsaved is not recommended for large batches.

Updating later

When the model changes, reopen the drawing and use the Update command to refresh views, parts-list visibility and titles, and balloons. See Updating drawings for the update modes.
