Axcast — overview

Axcast is the export module for Autodesk Inventor. It takes parts, assemblies and drawings out to the formats your Inventor installation can write — in one dialog, in a single batch run, instead of one Save Copy As at a time.

Axcast runs from the BM tab of the Inventor ribbon.

What it exports

Axcast does not work from a fixed list of formats. It reads the translators actually installed on your machine and offers those, with the options each one exposes. A translator you add later simply appears; one you do not have never shows up.

On a typical installation that means:

  • Model formats — STEP, IGES, SAT/ACIS, Parasolid (X_T / X_B), STL, JT, OBJ
  • Drawing and viewing formats — PDF, DWG, DXF, DWF and DWFx
  • Sheet metal — the flat-pattern DXF, written by its own dedicated path rather than the drawing DXF translator

Each format’s own settings appear in a live options grid next to the format list, read from the translator itself.

What you can export at once

  • A whole assembly, to the BOM depth you choose
  • Only the components you have selected in Inventor
  • Every component matching a saved component filter — the same filter Blocks the other BLUE MECH add-ins use
  • A folder of files, optionally including its sub-folders

A run can write several formats at once. Axcast opens each source file once and writes every format from it, rather than walking the assembly again per format.

Where the files go

Each format is written into its own sub-folder, and each run gets a fresh one, so a twenty-format run arrives sorted instead of as one pile and two runs never mix. Output names can be built from the component’s own properties. See Running an export.

Compatibility

Autodesk Inventor 2022–2027. Axcast is part of the BLUE MECH Axion add-in family and is included from Axion 27.1.3. Installation and licensing work the same as every other module — see Installing BLUE MECH add-ins and Licensing, trials & updates.
